Another Pahang Classic

The final of the Royal Pahang Classic was inundated as rain lashed the royal town of Pekan on Saturday afternoon. In fifteen minutes, the rain completely covered the field as it came sheeting down. The wind (of heaven?) blew a goalpost over – no mean feat – then the currents carried it first to the 30 yard line, then about 20 yards behind the back-line. It took hours for the flooding to subside.

The 3rd & 4th place match between Cameron Highlands and Thailand Polo had to be called off, while the 5th & 6th place match (BRDB vs Ranhill) had been called off earlier by the organisers who had wanted to play an exhibition match on Sunday between a Malaysian selection and and Argentinian selection.

Amazingly the field recovered and the final was played the very next day. It was a very good final, with Francisco Menendez dominating for Royal Pahang over debutants Jogo Polo. Royal Pahang were comfortable 6-3 winners, retaining their trophy for the third year running. Kelantan won a very competitive B division, while Kiara Polo won the C Division.
