MOP-ing

Having thought my polo season was Covfefe, suddenly I’m playing in the Malaysian Open Polo that starts this week.    RMPA President Dato’ Mohamed Moiz wanted to support this tournament, and combined with Dato’ Syed Budriz of 1 Selangor, to form a makeshift La Familia team to play in the in Malaysian Open.  I got drafted into it, and the team has engaged 3-goaler Hugo Fischer, from Western Australia, to play with us. Draw Music

Today, as I prepared the materials for the South East Asian Games Polo draw to decide the schedule, I was asked if we would like some music to go along with the draw.  What a wonderful idea!  Then came the realisation that I should be the one to choose some music with the draw. Continue reading

Retraining of Racehorses

RoR or Retraining of Racehorses is big thing in the United Kingdom.  It aims to give Thoroughbreds a second career after their racing days are over.  This year Cowdray Park will host RoR’s Racing to Polo Challenge at the West Sussex venue on Wednesday 19th July between the two semi-final matches for the prestigious Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup.  Continue reading

Abuse

leo1A recent case of abuse made the social media rounds this week.  Someone bought a “stallion” in January and placed it with a “trainer” at a stable in Rawang.  Five months later, the horse was dead. Continue reading

Polo Covfefe

It occurred to me that it has been a covfefe of a season.  First all the cancellations because of the incessant rain, and now, when the weather finally seems to have turned, I am our injured.  Continue reading

Old Saddles

I posted a lovely story in PoloEquestrian.com’s facebook page of champion jockey Angel Cordero Jr’s connection to his old leather race saddle, that he called “old hard-back.”  As riders we all have our favourite saddles that we just can’t part with. Continue reading

Another One Bites The Dust

The MPA Cup got canned, just like the RMS Gold Cup.  These May dates must be jinxed.  First it was to have been the Malaysian Open, then the ZT or RMS Gold Cup, and now the MPA Cup, all cancelled or postponed. Continue reading

The Comeback

Yesterday was a little better for my RSPC team.  We beat Hong Kong 7 – 4 1/2.  Shaik Reismann was very good, controlling the game and making key plays all afternoon.  Matt O’Leary was very good for Hong Kong, but was frustrated by RSPC’s good defence. Continue reading

Thrashed

Having shifted the first game of the RSPC Tempawan Cup to Friday, we decided to take no chances and played in the morning.  Good thing too, as it is raining now as I write this on Friday afternoon.  Malaysia were very good and beat us “comprehensively” as I posted in Facebook.  The 10 – 5 final score was in fact quite flattering to us.  Continue reading

Rain, Rain, Go Away

flooded fieldThe monsoon season seems to be on extension.  It is almost May, yet we have hardly played polo this season in Kuala Lumpur.   The Royal Selangor Polo Club took the opportunity to play on Monday morning, being a public holiday.  I couldn’t play, but was happy enough to sign up for chukkas yesterday afternoon.
